In Quran 2:247, the people are less concerned with Talut’s (Saul’s) dark-skin and African ancestry than they are about his economic position.
“Their prophet said to them, “Allah has appointed Talut as king over you.” They said, “How can he have authority over us when we are better fitted than he to have authority, and when he has not been given great wealth?” He said, “Allah has chosen him above you and has given him great knowledge and substance. Allah grants His authority to whom He pleases. Allah cares for all and He knows all things.” 2:247
Saul’s wealth or personal economic position can represent his economic positions concerning the wealthy.
Holding onto classism is more important to Herman Cain’s supporters than holding onto racism. He also appears to be the GOP’s latest counter to the first black president; Michael Steele being their first counter, as the Republican Party’s first African-American chief.
The truth is, classism and economic inequality in American has always, at least quantitatively, been a bigger problem than racism because it affected blacks, poor whites, and other races whose people were poor. But somehow, wealthy whites helped misplace the anger of poor whites from hating and fighting economic inequality to hating and fighting black people. But that has changed; represented by the election of Barack Obama and the Occupy Wall Street Movement.

“We’ve got to build an economy that works for everybody, not just some people. Not just folks at the top, but for everybody.”
-President Barack Obama
“The best thing that I can do for the African-American community, or the Latino community, or the Asian community – whatever community – is to get the economy as a whole moving. If I don’t do that then I am not going to be able to help anybody.”
-President Barack Obama
