Scripture: Used by American Heroes and Enemies

“We reveal in Scripture that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe. To the unjust, it causes nothing but loss.” 17:82

It has been said that which holds the greatest potential for benefit also holds the greatest potential for loss.

The Torah, Bible and Quran have all been used by our greatest American heroes and America’s worst enemies, for benefit and harm America.

For example, our Founding Father Thomas Jefferson devoted himself to the study of Scripture. He even compiled his own Bible known as the Jefferson bible. He also studied the Quran, a little known fact made public when Representative Keith Ellison swore his congressional oath on it (Jefferson’s hand written notes can be found in the margins). And he of course could not help but draw on his knowledge of scripture to help draft the United States Declaration of Independence, such ideas as:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

But others, enemies foreign and domestic, such as George Gordon, Osama bin Laden, Nathan Bedford Forrest, and Ayman Al-Zawahiri, of the Ku Klux Klan and Al Qaeda use Scripture to terrorize American citizens, and seek to unravel the fabric of America which those like Jefferson helped to create.

So let America use Scripture to repair what our enemies have sundered, and let it continue to be a mercy to those who believe.
