Sura 97. The Night of Power
1. We have indeed revealed it in the Night of Power.
God could have simply said “We have revealed the Quran”. Instead He said “We have revealed ‘it’ “. So what is it? It is that which was revealed in the Night of Power. And what was revealed on the Night of Power? The Quran, yes. But what is the Quran, really? The truth is, everyone asked will have a different answer.

2. And what will explain to you what the Night of Power is?
You might expect that the verse following this question will lie the answer, but no.

What comes next is a riddle of sort.

3. The Night of Power is as good as a thousand months
The Night of Power is as good as thousand months.
What is a thousand months, and how good is that?
A thousand months is as good as a life time, eighty-three years.
How good is a lifetime?
A lifetime is a good as you and I make it.
How good can we make it?
We can make it as good as the Night of Power and as good as that which was revealed in the Night of Power.
Again, what is it that was revealed in the Night of Power?
The Quran.
And what is the Quran
And how good is that which the Quran is?
Finally, your answer to this question is ultimately the same answer to the question “how good is your life”, for it (the Quran) was revealed in the Night of Power, and the Night of Power is a good as a thousand months (your lifetime, your life).

4. There comes down the angels and the spirit by God’s permission, for every will.
In some mysterious yet limited way, our free will/willpower (the control we deliberately exert to do something or to restrain our impulses) helps to determine God’s will/qadr for us. And we were reminded during Ramadan how powerful our will is, and that if we can restrain our impulse from do what is good and necessary (eating, drinking and intimacy), then certainly we can restrain any impulse we have to what is not good and what is unnecessary (vices).

5. Peace, until the rise of morn.
There are many riddles, mysteries, and realities which we must make peace with in order to be of service to God and humanity. But one day/morn we will come to see what it was we could not see while in the darkness of faith. And on that morn we will not only be people at peace, but people in absolute bliss .
